Tenant Protection

Cover the value of what you store, not just the unit it sits in. Saline Self Storage offers tenant protection through SafeLease, added during checkout.

Why Storage Units Need Their Own Cover

This is the part of renting a storage unit most people have not thought about, so it is worth being direct: a storage facility insures its buildings, not the contents of your unit. That is standard across the industry, not particular to us. If something happens to what you have stored — fire, storm damage, theft — the facility's own policy does not pay out to you.

Tenant protection closes that gap. It is a small monthly amount that covers the goods inside your unit up to a chosen limit, and it is why nearly every storage operator asks you to either buy cover or show that you already have it.

SafeLease Tenant Protection

We offer protection through SafeLease. Plan options and monthly rates are shown during checkout and set out in full in the brochure below, so you can see exactly what each level covers before you commit to anything.

Generally covered

Loss or damage to stored goods from causes such as fire, smoke, lightning, windstorm, water damage from the building, vandalism, and burglary where there is visible evidence of forced entry. Coverage applies up to the limit of the plan you select.

Generally not covered

Cash and securities, jewelry and furs above stated limits, vehicles registered for road use, animals, and damage caused by vermin, mold, or gradual deterioration. Items you were never permitted to store are not covered either.

The summary above is a general guide to how tenant protection works. The brochure and the plan documents are what actually govern your cover, including exact limits, deductibles and exclusions — please read them before choosing a level.

What If I Already Have Insurance?

Some homeowner's and renter's policies extend a limited amount of cover to belongings kept off the premises, including in a storage unit. That amount is usually a percentage of your contents cover rather than the full sum, and it may not apply to everything you plan to store.

It is worth a five-minute call to your insurer before you decide. Ask specifically about off-premises personal property, what the limit is, and whether a claim against it would affect your main policy. If you are already covered adequately, bring evidence of it when you move in.
